Hugging Face Launches 2 New Humanoid Robots
Open-Source Robotics Push Continues with HopeJR and Reachy Mini
AI development platform Hugging Face has expanded its robotics portfolio with two groundbreaking humanoid robots. The newly unveiled HopeJR and Reachy Mini represent the company’s commitment to open-source and accessible robotic systems.
Meet the New Humanoid Robot Duo
The HopeJR is a full-size humanoid robot boasting an impressive 66 actuated degrees of freedom (DOF), enabling complex movements including walking and arm coordination. Its smaller counterpart, Reachy Mini, serves as a desktop companion capable of head movements, speech recognition, and serving as a testbed for AI applications.
Pricing and Availability Details
Hugging Face estimates pricing at approximately $3,000 for HopeJR and between $250-$300 for Reachy Mini, with final costs subject to import tariffs. While production timelines remain fluid, CEO Clem Delangue confirmed plans to begin shipping initial units by year’s end, with a waitlist currently open for interested developers.
“The important aspect is that these robots are open source, so anyone can assemble, rebuild, understand how they work, and [that they’re] affordable,” emphasized Delangue in correspondence with TechCrunch.
Strategic Robotics Expansion
This product launch follows Hugging Face’s strategic April 2025 acquisition of Pollen Robotics, which provided critical technical capabilities for robot development. The company has been actively building its robotics ecosystem since:
- Launching LeRobot in 2024 (open AI models and tools for robotics)
- Releasing the SO-101 3D-printed robotic arm earlier this year
- Expanding training data for self-driving machines via partnership with Yaak
Disrupting Robotics Development
Hugging Face’s approach challenges conventional robotics development models by emphasizing open-source accessibility and affordable hardware. The new humanoid robots demonstrate the company’s vision for democratizing robotics technology and preventing market dominance by a few large corporations with proprietary systems.
As Hugging Face continues to bridge AI and physical robotics, these humanoid systems represent significant milestones in making advanced robotics more accessible to researchers, developers, and enthusiasts worldwide.
