Bing’s Free Sora AI Video Generator Launches

Microsoft Brings OpenAI’s Sora to Bing Users at No Cost

Microsoft has made AI video generation more accessible by integrating OpenAI’s Sora model into the Bing app. The new Bing Video Creator offers a free tier for generating videos from text prompts, marking the first time Sora’s advanced capabilities have been available without a paid subscription.

Limited Free Access With Microsoft Rewards System

While OpenAI reserves Sora for paying customers on other platforms, Bing users get 10 free video generations when logged into a Microsoft account. After exhausting the free tier, users can create additional videos using Microsoft Rewards points:

  • 100 points per video generation
  • Earn 5 points per Bing search (PC)
  • Daily cap of 150 points from searches

Current Limitations and Future Features

The initial rollout comes with several restrictions that Microsoft will likely improve over time:

Video Specifications

All generated videos currently have:

  • 5-second duration (no length adjustment)
  • Vertical 9:16 aspect ratio (optimized for social media)
  • Support for up to three simultaneous generations

The platform will soon add horizontal 16:9 videos to accommodate different sharing platforms. Even in “fast” mode, video generation currently takes hours to complete rather than the promised few minutes.

Platform Availability

At launch, the Sora-powered video generator is exclusively available through the Bing mobile app. Desktop users will need to wait for future updates to access the feature.

This integration showcases Microsoft’s continued partnership with OpenAI and commitment to bringing cutting-edge AI tools to mainstream users through its search platform. While limited compared to paid Sora implementations, the free tier lowers the barrier to entry for AI video creation, potentially expanding the technology’s user base.
